Deputy Eric Nygard joined the Blackhawk Police Department in January 2020.  Deputy Nygard has been with the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff since September 2001.

Deputy Nygard started his career in the Martinez Detention Facility and also worked at the West County Detention Facility before transferring to Patrol in August 2005.  Deputy Nygard’s longest assignment on Patrol was as an officer for The Town of Danville where he enjoyed 8 ½ years,   4 of those years as a Field Training Officer and 1 year as a Detective.  In 2013, Deputy Nygard was selected for assignment to Investigations with Sheriff’s Office.  He worked a variety of assignments while Investigations and remained there until his selection to Blackhawk.

Deputy Nygard enjoys shooting competitively and during the spring and summer he participates in competitions with IDPA and the USPSA.  During the winter he enjoys competing in Biathlon.

Deputy Nygard has been married for over 12- years and has 2 children, a 5-year old son & 12-year old daughter.  He is originally from San Jose but now enjoys living in Northern California with his family.
